Here it is, that time of year! Spring is coming on quickly and the Oklahoma State campus community has caught the "Spring Fever"! With only a few weeks of classes left, many students are counting down the days till summer. But before we leave, expect campus to get a little trashier this week!
That's right, Tomorrow is the annual Shack-A-Thon at Oklahoma State (As tradition would have it, there came a good rain storm the night before). Student organization and Greeks will be coming together on Library Lawn to bring awareness of the Homeless community through the advocacy of the OSU Habitat for Humanity group. Groups gather common dumpster treasures, construction waste materials, and what ever else they can find laying around to build shacks, much like homeless people might construct. Of course, our building and sleeping outside is only for one night, but we mean to bring a little awareness of this cause to our campus.
This will be my second year to participate with the Church of Christ University Center campus ministry group at Oklahoma State. Last year we won the Can Drive and Most Popular awards, and we are back for the competition again. Last year's shack, The UC iLuv Shack, was quite a masterpiece, loft, whirlybird and all. We even brought a little Bedlam Spirit with us.
So if you find yourself in Stillwater on the Oklahoma State campus Wednesday or Thursday (April 7 or 8) I encourage you to stop by Library Lawn and take in the "trashy" sight. Show your support for the cause and donate money to your favorite shack (The COC-UC Shack is sure to please!). All proceeds go to support Habitat for Humanity.
That's awesome, I expect to see more pictures! We did something similar at K-State, except it's for a week and can only use cardboard boxes. Let's just say I was never brave enough to try it. :) Good luck!
