Texas Country Wednesday - Eleven Hundred Springs

Well it's once again Wednesday and we need a few Texas Country tunes to get us through the week. This week I'm going a little more outlaw country with a band that is well-recognized on the Texas tour circuit, and I found em by word of mouth. Now I can't stop singing about that Rock Island Line.

With Matt Hillyer on lead vocals, Eleven Hundred Springs band has a unique sound that takes me back. My favorite album is Bandwagon, but Country Jam comes in a close 2nd. They have some catchy tunes that can be described as traditional honky tonk music. As their song Long Haired Hippy Freaks describes, you wouldn't expect this style of music from them on looks alone. But it's definitely worth a listen.

Texas Country Wednesday - Pat Green

Now I already know what you're going to say. With Country Charts hits like "Wave on Wave" that Pat Green might be snug with the Nashville crowd, but he has a very strong presence in the Texas regional music scene. Listen to some of his albums like "Live at Billy Bob's" or Dancehall Dreamer and you'll know what I'm talking about. I have several favorites from Green, but I'll only share two videos here.

There are some haters out there, but this San Antone native has some good songs.

Texas Country Wednesday - Ray Wylie Hubbard

Here it is Wednesday again, time to roll out some Texas Country tunes to get you through the middle of the week.Check out the Texas Country Music page for a list of artists featured on my blog. Be sure to let me know via comment or email if you have any suggestions.

This week's artist is someone probably more associated with Outlaw Country than most. Ray Wylie Hubbard is also one of the elder artists of the Texas Country Music scene. Although his songs haven't been as big of hits as some others', he still draws a loyal following. Hubbard's music has a bit of a folk, bluegrass feel, which is something I like.

This first video is a catchy tune. Sounds a little weird at first, but then you can't get the lyrics out of your head. At least give it a listen all the way through first go around. Here's Snake Farm.

Wednesday Video - Casey Donahew Band

Here it is Wednesday, Hump Day, the middle of the week. And to get us through I have some more of my favorite Texas Country artists for ya. Be sure to join me in sharing your favorite songs by this week's artists in the comments below.

This week's is Casey Donahew Band. Casey's one of the more popular bands that has had success farther from the Texas Region and has had some pretty big hits. One of my favorite concerts ever to attend was when CDB played at the Midnight Rodeo in Amarillo. Lots of his songs are great for two-stepping and a little swing, great sing-alongs, and yes even that fateful White Trash Story...

Here's CDB's latest single Double Wide Dream. Now I'll have this song stuck in my head all day long.

Here's another of my favorites from CDB, Back Home In Texas. Sing this song on the flat roads of the Panhandle with the windows rolled down and you'll know what I mean.
"Went down to Tennessee, Rocky Top I had to see..."

It's hard to get good videos of some of my favorite songs because most are concert videos. We'll see what I can keep digging up.

Wednesday Video - Tulsa Time

Here's to a new start and an awesome 2012! Let's see how long this blog series lasts. I'm a huge fan of Texas Country Music and if you're not a fan, you're missing out. Each Wednesday I'll post a video or two from my favorite artists and share the fun.

One of my first red dirt/texas country concerts to attend in college was an acoustic Jason Boland show for one of my friend's birthday. He's always been one of my favorites. I'm sure you've heard Pearl Snaps or If I Ever Get Back To Oklahoma is another favorite.
In honor of his acoustic performances, here's one of my favorites The Party's Not Over.

And the next one is a Don Williams original covered by Boland and the Stragglers, but I thought it appropriate since I am no long living on "Tulsa Time."
